Angela Yang:
“The main idea of this exhibition is to focus on the everyday lives of Cambodians. A group of Cambodian teens were given disposable cameras and asked to take pictures of their everyday life, including things that are meaningful to them, things that they do everyday, things that they want, and things that they would like to change. They had a chance to select the themes that most interested them and to take pictures for an international audience.
The project began when we met Nicky Ward, who is an artist and cultural coordinator who works with different organizations in Cambodia. We worked together and developed a plan for Nicky to help us deliver 20 disposable cameras to Cambodian youth in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Cambodia. I made a video that explained the concepts of the project to get the youth inspired to join our project. Instead of giving precise instructions, I wanted to give them the freedom to create something they wanted share with the world.“
